48 Hours in Myrtle Beach

Updated: Apr 15, 2020

Hubby and I have been intentional this year about doing weekend getaways without the kids. When the Doubletree Resort by Hilton Myrtle Beach Oceanfront and Visit Myrtle Beach offered to host us for the weekend, we jumped at the chance for a fun getaway only 1.5 hrs drive up the coast from Charleston.

The resort is quiet and secluded, and just minutes from all of the best area attractions--including golf, shopping, and dining. We had the most perfect weather this weekend, and visiting during the off season made us feel like we had Myrtle Beach all to ourselves.

I couldn't believe how blue the skies were during our weekend. AND-- there's nothing better than sipping on frozen pina coladas by the pool! The resort has six swimming pools and two lazy rivers, so there's no need to fight over lounge chairs! There's more than enough room to accommodate all of the resort's guests.

The Ocean Blue Lounge at the resort is renowned for it's expansive breakfast buffet, and the made to order omelets were such a treat. AND-- can we please talk about Lee Roy's famous scratch made grits?? Undoubtedly the cheesiest and creamiest grits that I've ever tasted! The resort hosts Happy Hour every afternoon, and the view from the deck at the bar is just dreamy.

You can't go to Myrtle Beach without making a stop at the Broadway at the Beach shops and restaurants, and we decided to spend time there both Friday and Saturday during our weekend.

We loved seeing all of the fun memorabilia while we dined at the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch on Friday, and we chose Landry's for a late seafood dinner on Saturday night. We felt like two crazy kids eating dinner at 9pm as 6pm is our typical dinnertime with the kids at the Taylor house!

Right: Shania Twain's gloves are #jujuapproved at The Hard Rock Cafe!

We had the best time strolling, holding hands, and stopping in lots of shops during our time at Broadway at the Beach. Some of our favs were the Paula Deen Family Kitchen Store, Savannah Bee Company, Southern Candle Studio, Yours and Mayan, The Mole Hole, and Splash Fresh Bath and Body. There's so much to see and do, and it's truly a great place for couples or families with children.

On Saturday evening the Duplin Winery hosted us for a fun wine tasting of their Carolina made wines before dinner at Landry's. The place was packed, and we met several locals that have purchased memberships so they can visit Duplin Winery for tastings every week. Getting to sip all of their locally made wines was a real treat, and we left with a bag loaded with multiple bottles of Pineapple Habanero Salsa and Smokehouse Grilling Sauce!

We sure are going to miss this view, and the Doubletree Resort by Hilton's yummy pina coladas!
